It was a sad day for the Dover adult services team last week as one of its longest serving members retired after 31 years. Shirley Carr, 60, from Capel-Le-Ferne stepped down from her post as care manager to spend more time with her husband Micheal. In her time with the team Mrs Carr was responsible for assessing clients” needs, including planning and providing day and respite-care and the meals-on-wheels service.Mrs Carr was presented with flowers, an engraved carriage clock and £100 to give to a charity of her choice. She said: ‘I have really enjoyed my work and will miss all my clients and colleagues.’Team leader Jenny Olpin said: ‘Shirley has been a joy to work with. Her clients and colleagues will miss her smiling face and sparkling eyes.’Mrs Carr began her career with KCC doing clerical work, and later trained as a welfare assistant.In her retirement Mrs Carr said she aims to spend more time on her hobbies, including singing with the Dover Choral Society and playing in the Snowdown Brass Band. She also hopes to spend more time time walking with the Capel ramblers.
