Band Welcomes Keith Twyman back as MD
Keith Twyman was voted in as new Musical Director this month. Congratulations Keith. The Band wish to say a HUGE thank you to Chris who stepped into the position as temporary musical director during the interim period and for taking the Band through the recent Contest.
SCABA – Spring Contest – Brighton and Hove
The band competed in the local SCABA (Southern Counties Amateur Band Association) Spring Contest at Hove Town Hall again this year. The band played: March : Westwood Ho! Test Piece : Saint-Saen Variations Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band 3rd overall (2nd for March and 3rd for Test Piece). Full results can be found http://www.scaba.co.uk/?p=1588
London and Southern Counties Regional Qualifiers
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Brass Band competed in the London and Southern Counties Regional qualifiers for the Natioanl Brass Band Championships of Great Britian this weekend. The band travelled the 105 mile trip by coach and arrived by midday and after a practice at The Thomas Allyne School made their way to the contest location, the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre. The 4th Section draw was made and Snowdown were drawn to play 15th of the 16 bands competing. After a long and nervous 5 hour wait, the band finally took to the stage and played Saint-Saens Variations (arr. Phillip Sparke). The band played well, and were awarded a 9th place. THIRD in the Folkestone SCABA Contest.
Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band competed in the Southern Counties Amateur Band Association”s (S.C.A.B.A.) annual Folkestone contest today. Pieces played: Hymn: Hyfrydol (R H Prichard) Test Piece: Anglian Dances (Alan Fernie) The band played well to a full audience and were placed THIRD by the contest adjudicator, Philip Harper. Full contest results will appear on the SCABA website later.
Rotary Club Concert
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band performed along with The Canterbury Orchestra and Singer Rachel Gillingham in the Charity Concert organised by the Rotary Club on the 3rd Oct 2009. The Concert was held at The Kings Hall in Herne Bay. Tickets for this concert and others were/are available from their online website at www.kingscaterers.co.uk.
